Get Ready for Your Closeup: #GlobalSelfie

Written by Morgan Woroner, IGES

You’re invited to participate in a worldwide celebration of Earth Day with NASA’s #GlobalSelfie event!

Did you know that 2014 brings the launch of five new NASA Earth science missions? These missions are designed to gather critical data, helping scientists better understand our Earth system. NASA is celebrating these new launches, as well as seventeen ongoing Earth science missions, with the Earth Right Now campaign. Throughout 2014, you can find videos, links to special events, and more at the campaign website.

The #GlobalSelfie event celebrates not only NASA Earth science, but Earth Day as well. NASA spends a great deal of time taking selfies of our home planet – while we can’t see ourselves in this satellite imagery, the people of Earth are there, on the surface of the planet, too small to see. Well, now is your chance to be seen! On April 22, NASA invites you to snap a photo of yourself (alone, with your friends, or maybe even with your entire class), and submit your very special #GlobalSelfie. Have an interesting Earth feature nearby? Make it a part of the shot! Participants are encouraged to include a pre-designed #GlobalSelfie poster, available on the event website.

Once you’ve taken your selfie, post it to one of five social media sites: Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Google+, or Flickr. Use the hashtag #GlobalSelfie for posts on Twitter, Instagram, and Google+, or post directly to the #GlobalSelfie event page on Facebook or Flickr. The images will be used to create a mosaic image of the Earth – a new “Blue Marble” built bit by bit with your photos, along with a video that will be released in May.

So what are you waiting for? Get ready for your close-up!

India.to get my picture just after school wearing my school house dress....but I am too sad I am not in the video....

I can see my glabalselfie photos on NASA's globalselfie site and so many people have liked it too.But there are words written just in the beginning of the page above my selfie 'Posts:declines'.Now what does that mean?.Does it mean that my selfie was never accepted and declined?.if so what could be the reason?
