NASA’s latest space satellite – along with our attention and imagination – is turned outside our solar system in the search for exoplanets. The April 18, 2018 launch of the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) intensifies the search for planets that orbit stars outside of our solar system, including those that could support life. Invite your students to join in the search by learning more about the mission, more about exoplanets, and more about ESS1A – The Universe and Its Stars.

Weather made headlines throughout the winter of 2017/2018. Still fresh in our memories are the records set for snowfall amounts and low/high temperatures. And who can forget the heavy rains, wildfires, coastal flooding, river flooding, and mudslides? These natural events took their toll on human enterprises- causing power outages, property damage, travel delays, and loss of life. Explore NGSS ESS2.D (Weather and Climate) by using the resources listed below. Find additional weather resources in Wavelength by searching for the topic “weather” or by going to http://bit.ly/WavelengthWeather. Look back on winter's newsworthy weather events with your students - and encourage them to continue to monitor local weather as the northern hemisphere heads into spring!
