This is an activity about orbital speed. Learners will create an analogy to planetary orbits using weights on a string that demonstrates the farther a moon is from a planet (or a planet from the Sun), the slower its orbital speed. This activity is part of "Ways of Seeing," an interactive, educational CD-ROM from NASA's Cassini Program. The Cassini spacecraft is the first to explore the Saturn system of rings and moons from orbit.
